Rover was sold to Leyland Motors in 1967, and ultimately became the most prolific brand within BL and gave its name to the entire conglomerate in the form of the Rover Group in 1986 (of which MG, Mini and Land Rover remained a part until the Rover Group was broken up by BMW in 2000).
A German multinational company which produces luxury vehicles and motorcycles, BMW was founded in 1916 as a manufacturer of aircraft engines, which the company produced from 1917 until 1918 and then again from 1933 to 1945.
Within the BMC structure, automobiles are marketed under the brands BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, and the company purchased the Rover Group in 1994.
